30th April 2010
In just over a week the FT summer season will kick off with the BFTA Championships at Newbury on Saturday 10th April followed by the Inter-regionals on the Sunday.
This will be the 24th year of the BFTA Championships and the list of winners is impressive. In 2008 Ian Taylor took his 2nd title and followed this by winning the Worlds in Northern Ireland. Last year Nick Murphy triumphed after a shoot-off with BFTA chairman Roger Moy; Nick then showed he was the best spring gun shooter in the UK by winning the GP series. So to win this one you'll need to be at the top of your game.
It will be a 40 shot course with shooters feeding on at lane one in squads of ten and anyone with a BFTA card can enter.
And then the following week the big one, the GP series, begins in the North-west at Tawd Vale. I love the GP series and find there's always a great atmoshpere wherever we go. Let's hope for a dry Tawd!

You can almost smell the new season in the air. This time next week, the anticipation will be palpable.

Evening all!
I've just tuned my box to pick up ITV HD so no longer is the football blurred ... excellent!!!
Evening as well, is the time out?
HD on ITV is that terrestrial, Sat or cable?
Sat, it's only available via Freesat I think.
New grades are here, anyone want info?
Mr Capello liked that!
Magic!
Evening guys!
It is almost as difficult to follow you on the blogs than search for woodcocks on the mountain this year!
Tic, tac, tic , tac, my watch is running and nervous, the NEFTA Classic is coming!
But unfortunately the previous week I'll be in Mexico so no chance to training at all.Oh dear!
At least Jose is training a lot everydays.
Buen dias Jesus, pasamos como las naves en la noche
Yes Shaun.
We need to be very , very attentive to detect all mouvements.
By the way, the hour who apprear on the bottom of each post is nost correct isn'It?.
At least in this new address I don't need to identify myself each time I contact!
Yes the time is out, thought it was, its now 19.26hrs.
Pschyco has arrived
Hi chaps and welcome Psycho!
I'm on the time problems
We were in Pacific time - it was still quite chilly!
Okay guys I'm for a few days in Wales.
Booking is open for GP2
Happy Easter!
Hi all, can't seem to find this site on the phone, just comes up as underconstruction. Though it then goes to a nice site about Masala!
Tasty!
Happy Easter.
Think we might rename him Whizzer or Dollop.
Took him to a local big pet shop and his first time out since born. He likes rabbits and rats.
Playfully seen a full size Cocker off, funny.
Good signs especially after what we were made aware of, you can now put your finger in his mouth after less than a day.
Hi all, felt good to hold a rifle again today. Giving her a wipe down with a greasy rag now.
How did Ian & Mark do at today's comp then?
Come on peeps, don't keep us in the dark, how did the lads do?
ok greg
55 was top score on our coarse today
Ahh, I didn't realise it was a two day event.

Did Mark get his boots?

Any good stuff to be found at the game fair?
Good i'll borrow them Ian, this mut needs anger management, hahah
Hello Gregory, no shagging tonight?

I think Phil j did a 51..Ian did a 52 I did a 51 ..Mark was quiet I did not ask his score.. After a 3 tied winners and after shoot off Mark wall from wales won...Ryan Charlton 2nd ..Pete dutton third..
it was agreat shoot mate who says you can not mix em .....is that Rob on our blog greg ?
Glad you had a good couple of days, chaps.
evening roy
Well done fellas, I believe Mark scored a creditable 50.
Well shot gentlemen.
It was the rolling around in the mud together that turned them on, not the score.
Hi guys and well done to Ian, Karl, Mark and Phil.
Only 3 days until G-day, can't wait!!
Is that Mr Farnsworth popping in to say hello?
might be ;)
looks like my championship day is in jeopardy though :(
regionals is fine though... phew...
Work or woman Rob?
Well I'm watching the Messi show whilst sipping a large Peroni: both outstanding!
Barcelona obviously watched the way Wolves played Arsenal last Sat and have cloned their gameplan.
Interestingly, some of the Arsenal tackling is worse than the Karl Henry one they were all screaming about on Sat.
Looking forward to hitting the G spot later in the week.
Evening Roy, yes very Wolvish
Thinking of G's, I've just walked the dog and bumped into ex Wolves player Geoff Thomas
He hadn't taken a wrong turning on one of his bike rides had he? Top bloke though. Wolves were robbed when, through injury, they never saw the best of him.
He was out with his wife, I guess, and his dog. I think he lives in the Barnt Green area.
Aha the home of 1/3 of Greener guns Saun.
woman CB... woman.
it could be one side of a double pronged attack, another woman is dangling a large spanner over the running gear on another shoot, but I won't know the status of that for two weeks.
i won't send up a flare on what is yet, but look for a bright glow over the horizon in the south if it doesn't go my way in two weeks time. Should give you enough time to paint yourself white and get behind the sofa before the blast wave gets up there! :D
Rob its not Divina is it?
perhaps we need some sort of resistance movement that smuggles shooters out of their homes for the weekend.
I'm thinking about a second Peroni!
Why have Arsenal got no width in their defence. Alves has got loads of space.
lol Jon...! :D
no, sadly this one is related, which makes it even harder to pull the big red handles above my head on the event.
at least i'm going to the nefta... that's safe.
take a touch man!!!!
Well some of those Arsenal players looked very ordinary tonight.
Inter v Barcelona. An interesting match up; can Jose stifle Messie?
Wenger interview will be interesting.
Ejem, ejem, ejem, ejem,.....
Evening chaps from Euskadi.
Today is a special day so the Basque people enjoy together the Catalan people this fantastic match!.
I arrived to see only the last Mesi's goal cos I was returning from Medina.
Hi Rob , nice to meet you again here!
Roy, perhaps the Wolves have the copyright to sell it to BCN?
Sorry I'm ranting. Please take no notice.
Do you think we should run a book for the Champs on Saturday?
I reckon it could be Mr Gillot.
Hola Jesus!
Weather looks good for the Greyhound on Friday and then Newbury on Saturday.
Jesus, I have just read a book called "The Basque history of the World"
Shaun , I'm sure you've acquired more knolwedge about the basque people, more than a lot of basques!
Did you enjoy it?
It was very good. I read it about ten years ago but at that time I didn't connect. After I read the fiction book "Gernika" I felt I wanted more information. I finished it in about five days and now would like to read some more.
It has left me with many questions.
Jesus, did I ever tell you that you are a man of great intellect and discernment, and a fine sporting brain. You have seen that Wolves softened them up for you and all Barcelona had to do was finish the job. Messi obviously learned a lot from watching the Wolves.
Shaun, I think it would be even more intriguing to have a "virtual" clubs championship within the GP series. Say, take the top 5 scores on the day for each club, and aggregate this over their 6 best scores of the series. I know some clubs might not have sufficient numbers but I,m sure that that could be accomodated somehow
AS you know , perhaps you can find the right answers here during your next visit, arround a table with 20 empty bottle beers......
Jesus, you have uncovered my plan!
I can see my Sunday score at the Euskadi getting lower and lower but ...
Roy, are you suggesting that Millride might come out on top?
Roy, I think the Barcelona doesn't play footbal. They enjoy playing footbal.
Their goal is not to play footbal.
Their goal is TO ENJOY playing footbal.
Is similar to the FT.
Jose and myself we are involved in this matter now.
Our goal is to enjoy trough the FT, to know people, to travel, to make new friends, and sometime to shoot with more or less luck.
Shaun, I've got no idea who would win it, although I'm sure M/r would be in the top 20. I half suspected that, knowing you, you'd have already covered that statistic.
I'm with you there Jesus, but the competetive element does add spice.
I'm off to bed to dream of shooting and being in pays de basque. Adios amigos!
Of course Roy , and technical conversations about balistics, scopes, wind and so on....
But about the spices....I'd take enough in India. No more, thanks.
There, still the water is spiced!
Buenas noches Shaun.
Sueña con los ángeles!8 de Charly a poder ser)
Good night
I like your humour, Jesus.
I like your courtesy Roy.Exquisite
Rob are you still there?
It looks like Rob is going to similar place than Shaun...
Roy, how is Jackie?. I hope she overcome the recent event. Regards to her too.
Right. I'm off the bed .
Buenas noches a todos amigos.
Hasta mañana.
Don't be fooled by Roy Jesús, he farts alot & wipes his nose with his sleeve!
He just can't stop pickin' on me, can he.
Evening chaps.
I'm very glad to see the "good feeling" existing in the blog.
Greg, I can't believe those things of Roy.....
Thanks Jesus, I need all the protection I can get from that bully.
Very entertaining match tonight.
What has the Spanish press been making of last night's game?
Every people is crazy with Messi.
It seems that no other stuff occurs in the world.
Franco said : the football is the opium of the people. And he was true.
Really in this crisis time every people needs to think sometime in different issues like the work or the excedents.....
Press said things like : Messi is god. Maradona is the Meesi's shade and so on.
Now it remains the big match Real Madrid - Barcelona, so we have enough football drug.....
It's been a bit like that over here, everybody's talking about Messi.
At least we have a General (National) Election on May 6th to divert the attention. Although Messi would probably win that as well.
By the way, England and Spain could have very important World Cup games over the Euskedi weekend. We could be having a lot of fun "extra" to the shooting.
¿Politics?. Oh dear!No please!.
The feeling about the Spanish politiciens is a catastrophe.
Incompetent, embezzlement, thieves. we are tired of them.
Govern who govern is always the same.
Some things are the same the whole world over. Got to go now but it'll soon be the NEFTA weekend.
Yes, NEFTA Classic is coming...
But now we'll have the first step of the FT Euskadi league. It will be held on sunday 11th.in Okondo.
We were this afternoon designing the course. 40 targets face to the sun into the forest : Do you rememeber something like this?. Perhaps the European?. YES!.
Yesterday I was training with the Walther and I was surprised because suddenly the POI changed at 50m. I've chronographied this morning and all is OK. Wat was happen yesterday?. Mystery.
Tomorrow I'll check it again in order to be sure all is his place.
Time to bed.
Nighty night Roy ( and possible readers).
nite nite my friend
sorry. it did it twice .....it looked stupid
Early evening all!
I've just topped up with air and I'm ready for the Greyhound tomorrow.
For those attending we're meeting there at 10am.
Me too.
What a great HT score for Fulham. Bobby Zamora is having a great season.
Evening guys.
Four of us enjoyed a day's shooting at the Greyhound today. It was a lovely day and although there was only a little wind it did prove troublesome. Let's hope we are now prepared for the champs tomorrow.
Couldn't have been beter; 100 shots, good company, good food and beer and Greg a very happy bunny, setting a blistering pace this morning and looking very much at one with the new rifle.
Hi guys, just back from a super weekend shooting.
Yesterday the conditions were very favourable but today it was windy. Strangely I had more success when it was more windy today (a touch of the Jon Harris' perhaps!)
"More success"
We need to know more.
Sorry Roy after so much fresh air I nodded off.
I had volunteered to help at the Inter-Regional. When I arrived Dave Harrison was very sick and couldn't shoot so I ws catapulted into the team.
hope dave is get's well soon.
New grades are in.
Changes are
Marc Asbury to AA
Debbie to B
Kev to B
Me to AA
This means we will have a good number of competitors in B grade (Debbie, Kev, Greg Roy and Mitch) and in AA (Marc, Jonta, Daz, Ian, Jon, Karl, Mark and me).
Good luck!
An enjoyable but thought provoking day at Tawd today. Well done to those who shot well and commiserations to those who may have thought they should have shot better. Star of the day though, was our Paul who is fast becoming a Mark Charlton clone: arrive, shoot, win a trophy,.
Yes Roy thought provoking in that the course builders need a good lesson how to.
The very same reason i avoided 3 years ago.
Some of us are easily pleased Jon.
Seriously though, I find it hard to differentiate between a bad or a good course, because what's bad for one might be good for another.I find missing the target equally annoying on either type.
Having said that, I definitely wouldn't like a course that I felt was too easy.
If somethings worth doing, do it right or not at all.
Clear shots at targets, % of discipline shots, and small kills etc.
What i dont expect is the string going up the M6 first rather than direct to target and tied down needlessly. Should have seen what they did three years ago, unreal. If theres crap in the way, clear it or dont bother putting that target out.
Lengthy walk with cased gun and leaving for well over 4hrs. 3 1/2hrs done 28 targets, ive shot GP courses and gone home at times 1/4hr before. Stoppage was 10 to 12 mins.
evening shaun, roy, jon,
Hello Ian.
BOOTLEG CLUBS CUP ( I hope it's a bit of fun)
Based on total of percentages scored by top 4 shooters from each club. Where there are fewer than 4 shooters from any one club I've just put in the totals of however many there were.
30 clubs took part in GP1, and although I've got the scores for each of them, for convenience, I'm only showing the top 15. The first figure is the number of shooters included, and the second is the score.
Harriers 4 384
Tawd Vale 4 368
Redfearns 4 360
Castle 4 356
Anston 4 350
Nelson 4 348
Millride 4 342
Tondu 4 326
Dowry Hill 4 314
Far Coley 4 308
Bisley 4 282
Byley 4 278
D'fermline 3 246
Emley Moor 3 246
P/Chase 3 232
It was laid out ever so neatly when I typed it.
nice idea with the clubs thing... i know tony was quite keen on the idea.
i wonder how many clubs could field 3-4 over a season?
perhaps points system like the constructors?
nice to see robs showing an interest in our blog he might be one of our members soon. !
by the way just got back from the pub .....well me and mia have.
Difficult to do it on points Rob, because the top score in each grade gets 50 points. So you could have a situation where a club wins because, say, it has 1st and second in C, beating higher scores in AA which have attracted fewer points.
Well, you'd never believe that we're so close to the NEFTA weekend and nobody wants to talk about it.
I should warn you that I've been in intensive training for the past 2 weeks and I've now got the tent erection time down to about 5 mins, but despite my best efforts getting it back in the bag still takes about 40.
All of this may be academic because the gun had to be taken to Gary R today, but, despite his best efforts, he can't guarantee when the problem might be identified or fixed.
when you getting it back mate. got to fetch nicole now back in a bit
88 standers this weekend, and I can't hit a 40mm at 22yds with a whole minute to play with...
hmm... some practice needed... should be fine... for next year :D
I'll bet you can get a tent back into it's bag quicker than I can though.
well about the gun !....evening Rob
hows things
Basically he needs to take it apart to try and identify the problem then he'll try and get it back to me in time for the weekend. As you know, I won't be around on Friday, so it's cutting it a bit fine if it needs setting-up again.
no problem i will help you before the shoot we will need half an hour on the zero range mate..
good at getting an erection though!
i am on about ya tent
Glad you're impressed.
Got to go now Ian, will talk tomorrow.
nice to see everyone back on the blog
do not worry about setting gun up its no problem ok !
